ComfortBridge™ Communicating Control System Added To Amana & Goodman 80% Furnaces

Goodman Manufacturing has announced the next phase in the roll out of ComfortBridge -equipped furnaces.  The new board-based communication platform has now been added to AMVC, GMVC, ACVC and GCVC8 80% variable speed, ECM-based 2-stage gas furnace models.

The equipment model number will remain the same, except the major revision (see
detail below), which will change from a BC or BD revision to a CA revision. Production
of the new CA revision models has begun, and warehouse inventory of the current
product will be shipped first until depletion.

Goodman Releases CoolCloudHVAC™ Technical Guide for Furnaces with ComfortBridge™ Control Platform

With the introduction of the ComfortBridge™ control platform for furnaces, Goodman has released this Technical Support Guide for the CoolCloudHVAC™ app developed for the installer and service technician.

This Technical Guide should be used in conjunction with the installation manual for furnaces with the ComfortBridge™ control platform as a resource for proper set up of the furnace when using the CoolCloudHVAC™ app.

ComfortBridge™ Control System Furnace Non-Communicating Setup Using PCB Pushbuttons

Goodman has released Service Bulletin SF-078 containing instructions on setting up a new ComfortBridge™ control system furnace with a non-communicating outdoor unit.

From Goodman:

When installing a new ComfortBridge™ control system furnace with non-communicating outdoor units please adhere to the following instructions for setting up the equipment airflow. This safeguard was put in place to prevent maximum airflow when no adjustments are made during the install.

NOTE: Please refer to the Quick Start section of the installation manual IOG-2015 for low voltage wiring connections for your specific application. Once you have the unit installed, wired in correctly to terminals Y and G, and ready to start up, the following will assist you in configuring the furnace to operate with a non-communicating air conditioner using the PCB push buttons. Failure to follow these instructions will cause the unit to stay in “IdL” mode and not pass the call for “AC” airflow with a call for cooling.

1. From the “IdL” menu push the Left or Right push buttons until you get to the “OdS” menu.

2. Once at the “OdS” menu push the center button. This will get you into the submenu and display will now read “Off”. Once “Off” is on the 7 segment LED then push the Right button until you see “1AC” (single stage AC). Select the center button once to accept “1AC” and a second time back out to the “OdS” menu. Note: The “OdS” menu also contains configuration options (2AC-2stage AC, 1HP-1 stage HP, 2HP-2 stage HP.)

3. Once you have selected “1AC” and hit the center button twice you will now see “OdS” in the 7-segment displays. This confirms the change has been made and you can now push any two buttons and you will be brought back to the main “IdL” menu.

4. You have now successfully configured the system to utilize a non-communicating air conditioner using the PCB pushbuttons. You now need to select an airflow value in the “ton” menu. You will set this according to what CFM is required by the size of the AC you have installed as found in IOG-2015.

Note: the system will not provide airflows above the Max Airflow Value.

  • 3 Ton Models = 1400 CFM (*MVC960803 max CFM is 1650)
  • 4 Ton Models = 1760 CFM
  • 5 Ton Models = 2200 CFM

ComfortBridge: Amana & Goodman’s New Communicating Interface for Equipment

Goodman Manufacturing has announced the next phase of its communicating equipment interface: ComfortBridge™. This technology will replace the current ComfortNet™ communicating thermostat.

What is ComfortBridge?
ComfortBridge is a board-based communication platform (versus the thermostat-based ComfortNet technology). It uses Bluetooth® technology to commission, configure and diagnose equipment. This frees you, as the contractor, to use the thermostat control of your choice with the equipment without sacrificing the communicating benefits of the system.

ComfortBridge is managed through either an on-board LED screen or through your smart phone using the Cool Cloud HVAC app (Android download | Apple download).

What units are affected?
All communicating system furnaces and air handlers will be upgraded to ComfortBridge-enabled boards. Starting July 2018, you may receive an updated communicating furnace with your order of the following models: AMVC96, ACVC96, GMVC96, GCVC96.

Because this is a revision to an existing model, not a new product, HVAC Distributors will make best efforts to sell through existing inventory (ComfortNet-communicating product) before selling the new inventory. This will give you time to download the app and learn more about the ComfortBridge technology.

What does this mean for you?

  • Thermostat Flexibility. You are no longer tied to the CTK04 to make the most of the equipment’s communicating features. You can use your choice of thermostats, including any brands your company may have standardized on.
  • Application Flexibility. ComfortBridge opens possibilities for 2-stage, modulating and inverter applications, hydronic connectivity, external dehumidification connectivity and ventilation connectivity that were not available with the CTK04 configuration.
